I bought these digital radios to be used on a cruise ship and they worked great. They were able to transmit crystal clear voice from deck one all the way to deck 15 and both radios were inside of the ship while broadcasting. They also had great range while out and about in the ports. I had some DLR 1020's and the DTR 700s paired up nicely with them. These radios are far superior to the Motorola Talkabout series (FRS/GMRS) for inside a cruise ship although they are much pricier than the Talkabouts but you will be much happier with them. They are easy to program once you have purchased the programming cable and watched the video on how that is done and they can be highly customizable to assign the radios to specific people and then be able to privately call them. Would highly recommend for traveling on cruise ships.
