I’ve owned a Sangean dt-200v radio for many years, and finally needed to replace it, since it had been dropped many times and the battery compartment was coming apart, also the speaker no longer worked. It had great reception but many annoying quirks. After researching what was comparable, I decided on the new model, the 200x. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that they had done their homework! All of the annoying quirks are fixed in this model, plus some new features added that are icing on the cake. Same great reception, same great battery life, now with lighted display, battery gauge, and a longer timeout that is now overrideable, plus a built-in clock that is visible whenever the radio is off. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.I hesitated somewhat in buying this radio because of its size, so I made a 3 dimensional template and happily, it ended up smaller. It is exactly 4¼ inches tall x 2 3/8 x 7/8 inches without the removable belt clip. It is only slightly larger than the DT300 model, (which has served me well - for two pocket radios, but no longer available). The rounded bottom of the DT200 does not allow it to stand, so why not lay it down at a desk? Those rounded bottom and corners are likely designed to slip easily into your pocket and not catch or create wear on the pocket fabric. I like that. The many reviews here were very helpful in deciding between various models, but I am definitely a big fan of Sangean. This will be my fourth purchase, with three of them now being pocket radios and the fourth a clock radio that I really like with the buttons for station changes instead of a dial.I am replacing the Sangean DT300 with this one because that radio no longer has a working `down' button feature. So I wonder when I will lose the `up' button and be forever stuck on the same station. The identical model radio previous to that one lost its on/off function. Now back to this DT200. Overall I am pleased with its features. The port for the L plug trailing antenna/ear buds (straight plug) is on the top of the unit - I liked the side feature slightly better so that it did not interfere as much with the volume wheel. The on/off button is at the top. The lock button is on the side - I liked the top position better so as to activate the locking feature w/o taking out of pocket. But I can live with the differences. The topside port does give a point of reference for other features on the top.If the MEMORY feature is turned off, you select the band and move through the frequencies one by one or hold down the button for the radio to select the strongest. If the MEMORY feature is turned ON, you scroll through whatever channels you have set one both bands. I am pleased that this radio has only the two bands and not also the weather band (which I don't use, living in sunny southwest, it is pretty much the same) or the no longer accessible analog TV band. The TV band still exists on some other models for sale here but, since the change to digital TV a couple years ago, it will no longer work no matter what you read or expect! With my DT300, I had to scroll through 3 other bands to get to my band of choice. The mix of AM/FM on the DT200 favorites function is a most welcomed feature. It is no longer necessary to switch bands for favorite station presets.I was thinking that for those who bemoan the fact that they have only a few favorites and unable to delete slots; why not enter your favorites twice or to where you use up all the slots? Now, after I have set some of my favorite stations, I see that it does not scroll through any empty slots, i.e., I have selected only 7 favorites and it does not scroll though 8-19.I find that selecting and adding favorites is much more intuitive than the 300 model. It is much easier to understand these directions which may have been written by a more user friendly user than in the past! The overall reception after a few days use is definitely better out of doors and seems to be quite good. The display is a generous 1 3/8 by 5/8 inches and there is a brief back light - this may come in handy during an infrequent power outage or certainly when I'll use this radio at night. The battery life indicator is active when the radio is in use. If the lock button is ON, it will blink if you try to change the setting or turn it off. It does not lock the volume, as someone else indicated. It locks only the ON/OFF feature and the current station setting.Because of my main use out of doors, I keep the radio in a clear sandwich bag. Thus, our fine desert dust and occasional rain can affect my nice little radio a whole lot less. I am a big fan of rechargeable batteries, so always carry along a spare pair at the ready. How do I use my radio? Mainly out of doors, horseback rides, overnights, yard work and gardening, nature walks and finally as a companion for that dreaded job of cleaning the pool tile! The occasional power outage makes this a handy little radio to have while trying to get back to sleep. For the most part I do not use the supplied ear buds, but the trailing antenna instead, which by the way must be let out if you want FM reception. I am one of those folks who still likes to hear what else is going on around me in the realm of nature. For night time use, I use ear buds, but the ones I prefer are made by Phillips with a soft over the ear wing. This radio was an excellent choice and is highly recommended.NO.1 like - got rid of Iheartwhich breaksup way too often. Then the Sound and ease of use - Sleep timer.OK confusion for stations going into memory is not straight away clear. To clarify - There are 19 total presets which are Shared between Am and FM. NOT 19FM and 19AM, still plenty for me though. When you have your MIX of am/fm stations entered, access them by pressing the 'favorite' button on the side - an 'M' will display. Now you can select any saved stations sequentially saved to "MEMOry" using the tune up/dwn arrows on front of radio. As another person said - a stand is desirable. So that is in the works because I just received this yesterdayI'm working on a stand.Update: The stand i made out of 4 mil Thermo plastic and it works great. Rgarding battery life, 2 AA batteries have lasted 2 weeks with 4 hour daily use. Next update will review REchargeable AA's. The Radio itself is working great. No remorse for purchase. Sangean rocks (and talks :)I have the older version of this radio. the tuning knobs were giving me fits with the sound cutting out or losing stereo audio. I have to fiddle with the volume to get it back. I ordered contact cleaner to see if it can be salvaged. In the meantime, I got this version. It sounds good in stereo with my headset. i like it but the belt clip sucks. I purchased a nylon carry case for it with a belt loop. When you buy these radios, you need to check where the headphone jack is. This one is on the top so I can plug in there and run it out the top of the pouch. I was carrying the older version in my pocket after the belt clip did not hold. it dropped on the concrete sidewalk but no damage. I like these sangean radios. they are more expensive than the cheap stuff you can get, but the features, and build is way worth it. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.It would be nice if the FM antenna was built-in instead of dangling. The length and physical construction of the 3.5 mm cable/device attached to the radio impacts the FM reception. I have used a 3.5 mm Y-splitter to attach the included “antenna” and a short lead to an external device. That seems to work pretty well. The internal speaker is not much, but nice to have the option. The volume control is analog while everything else is digital. I have not had it long enough to determine battery life. Not sure who the “earbuds” are made for. They are HUGH (diameter of a dime) and in no way will fit my ears. The AM radio station tunings on this model are not compatible with Australia and cannot be changed. And now I have to ship it back to North America. Very inconvenient. Stop selling this product Amazon Australia! Zero stars if I could.I bought this small radio in reliance on the representation that it is capable of receiving both FM and AM transmissions. I live in Australia. On receipt of the item I found that the digital tuner operates only on round numbers at intervals of 10 . Hence when I want to go to the AM 576 band, the closest I can get is 570 or 580; there is no fine tuning available.Buyers outside the US should beware. The product is virtually useless for AM reception in this country at least and probably anywhere else not corresponding to US band settings; i assume it does work there. It functions ok on FM bandwidths but I rarely use them. Too much cost and problems to returnPetite radio que j'utilise quand je ne veux déranger personne : faible puissance sonore = faible portée. Mais le son est impeccable à ce prix. Pour les écouteurs fournis, je préfère les miens ! Facile d'utilisation. Ma plus grande surprise est la durabilité des piles Eneloop même quand j'utilise le haut-parleur externe. Recommandé. Small radio, impeccable sound at this price. J'allais oublier : la réception est exceptionnelle, je ne m'y attendais réellement pas après avoir lu certains commentaires, j'habite une grande ville cependant. L'antenne FM fournie est donc très efficace et je me sers souvent du "Clip" très utile ! Easy to use; and my biggest surprise is the very long lasting of Eneloop. I would buy it again : recommended !Almost forgot : reception is #1, I live in a city, yes. FM antenna is really efficient. And I often use the clip, it is very usefull. Excellent product for the price then !I like the compact size of this radio! Absolute great and the reception is good enough for city use. Can't say outside the city but I like it so far. I keep it in my backpack and I wear it for my lunch walk for sure...I'm sick and tired of my own music so listening to jazz or classical music on a local FM radio station is great...and yes...I'm using the belt clip and proud of that! Old school...of course I use headphones mostly-the little speaker is barely good enough but ok. I may mount it on my bike and listen to some music for my morning bike ride..but it's all plastic so it won't survive a drop for sure. I'll just have to be careful. I have a few radios but this is the most portable one and this is why I bought it. The digital display is great and I already chose my favourite stations. Battery life is great too. A good value for a real portable radio. If you don't need a portable one then choose a bigger one with a better speaker. This is a good basic AM FM personal radio, with most of the features that you would want. I listen to both bands. Reception is better than average for most stations on AM or FM. However, I find that when I'm listening to FM, the stereo fades in and out depending on my location, and in those cases I switch to mono. This is occasionally true, even for some local stations. I especially like the digital tuning capability, and station memory. No need to fiddle around trying to see if you have tuned the station in correctly as is the case with analog tuners. The tuning display is backlit which is very convenient. The sound quality of the built-in speaker is adequate and what you might expect from a speaker of its size. It will not fill a room with sound, but it certainly provides acceptable listening volume. If you pop open the battery door you can use it as a stand for the radio while listening through the built-in speaker. The sound through the headphones is of course dependant on their quality, but I find listening through the headphones supplied by the manufacturer to be good. Other devices may, of course, provide higher quality sound, but in this case the sound is adequate and volume is good. One improvement could be some mechanism or depression built into the housing to facilitate storing earbud headphones when attached. This could be as simple as a clip or strap loop, or perhaps a slot of some sort. The supplied belt clip is functional and I use it often. It is easily removable for those people who do not wish to use it, which is convenient. The unit takes two AA batteries and battery life is very good. I have owned this model for years and have replaced it with the same model once it has worn out. It is relatively durable and I have dropped it in the past without fatal damage, but you should take care to avoid drops due to the plastic housing. It is not waterproof and it should be kept dry. The manufacturer is very experienced in producing radios and this one is a good value for the money.
